Devised by Takis Soldatos, Oenoforos in cooperation with Sofia Blomberg Art Direction & Design in Sweden, the “bag-in-bag” carton for Vernissage resembles a designer handbag (complete with top handle) yet each contains wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France.
Besides being so much chicer than boxed wines, Vernissage received “Most Innovative” in the 2010 Carton Awards and the Gold in the Pentawards in recognition of the bag design. The distributor, The Exceptional Wine Company, says the wines are as pleasing as the packaging: “fresh, fruity and easy to drink. Each Vernissage handbag contains 1.5 liters of red, white or rose wines.” (Retails about $20)
The distributor, which has brought the winebags stateside, noted a recent Gallup poll that found that more than half of female drinkers chose wine over other alcoholic beverages, so having a fashionable package might just suit them….(provided it coordinates with her shoes!) www.vernissagewine.com
