Watch out, these bags bite!
HBO’s vampires-in-the-Deep-South series “True Blood” continues to be a bloody great hit. Now handbag line Hammitt has launched the “Hammitt for True Blood” collection, a luxury collaboration set to debut this July, a few weeks into the show’s fourth season on HBO.
The line features five upscale handbags keeping in the spirit of the Los Angeles-based Hammitt brand, and each is named after a different character on the show.
“As a huge fan of True Blood, I was ecstatic to be given this opportunity,” says Hammitt designer Sharon Rodriguez. “I instantly had a vision of the perfect bag for each of my favorite Bon Temps residents. With the ‘Hammitt for True Blood’ line, I tried to stay true to each character and hone in on their individual style and essence. I hope fans fall in love, all over again, with each character and their Hammitt counterpart.”
Each bag features a deep red tonal printed lining with the abbreviated True Blood logo. The five bags reference the following characters:
“Eric” – The vampire sheriff of Area 5, Eric Northman, has been known to take silver bullets for Sookie Stackhouse. This edgy black bag has a smattering of bullet-shaped studs and flat rivets on the gussets. Retail: $445.
“Sookie” – This dove gray suede bag is a sweet-n-tough mixture, just like this telepathic waitress. The dove gray suede bag has a sweet kiss-lock closure and edgy rivets on the gusset. Retail: $395.
“Alcide” – Werewolves run hot and so does this furry bag, inspired by Alcide Herveaux. While soft leather and faux fur suggest a gentle side, the bag features rivets on the handle and a wolf image printed on the underside of the bag flap. Retail: $485.
“Lafayette” – Inspired by Bon Temps’ flamboyant V dealer Lafayette, this bag offers subtle references to the street term for vampire blood (hinted at in the shape of the exterior pocket and the stamped alligator pattern). A discrete nod to Lafayette and the Louisiana bayou. Retail: $675.
“Fangtasia” – Celebrating Goth-infused fashions from vampire bar Fangtasia, the corseted detailing on the front offers the perfect relaxed, yet structured shape. Retail: $585.
This isn’t the first collaboration with the show, either. In 2009, HBO collaborated with Udi Behr, Chief Designer for Love Peace and Hope, to create a line of jewelry inspired by True Blood. The collection included bracelets, leather cuffs, rings and earrings in an edgy fusion of sterling silver, polished steel and crimson rubies.
