Los Angeles—Will Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn be giving their two cents worth to budding accessories designs on a TV near you soon?
That’s the report coming out of Hollywood entertainment websites this week. Supposedly Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Co. and the show’s producer, has sold Lifetime on a spinoff “Project Runway: Accessories.”
Details remain elusive: will the competition feature handbags, footwear, jewelry? Or a focus on the single classification? Will Heidi boot off losing designers with trademark “Auf Wiedersehen?”
“To date, Project Runway has been a worldwide hit, airing in many overseas countries. It also has spawned several indirect spinoffs, like ‘Tim Gunn’s Guide To Style,’ ‘Models On The Runway,’ Style,’and ‘On The Road With Austin And Santino,’ but those have only lasted one season each,” reported Deadline Hollywood earlier this week.
So far the show has dabbled in accessories. There was the Philip Treacy hat challenge in the recent season, as well as “Project Runway Accessories Design Challenge Sketchbook Set,” one of a series of activity books aimed at fledgling designers.
Fans of the show are already speculating on which designers might be judges. That is—if “Project Runway” still has viewers after judges selected Gretchen Jones over fan favorite Mondo Guerra in Season 8. Judging from the cavalcade of negative feedback on My Lifetime.com and other fashion blogs, could it be that fans have ruled the show “out”?
