Groton, CT—With retro chic on the minds of everyone from designer Miuccia Prada to Banana Republic’s “Mad Men” collection, even to actress Mischa Barton who is launching her own retro ready-to-wear line, it sure seems like an opportune time to introduce a retro-inspired sunglass collection.
That’s exactly what Alue Optics has done with the premiere of its first high performance sunglass collection, “combining superior optical properties and neo-retro design principles.”
The line, which retails between $175 to $275, in
cludes nine unisex models each available in a different color stories. Alue’s acetate and wire frames are all individually handmade, containing features such as spring hinges and silicone nose pads.
“The inspiration for the Alue Optics collection was to fill the gap in the marketplace with a lens performance line—an enduring classic look that can keep your eyes functioning stress-free through your daily activities,” said Case Watson, partner, Alue Optics. “We transform classic sunglass styles using simple but distinctive design elements to provide timeless looks to complement the functionality of our Alue AQ-P lens.”
Alue (which means “sphere/realm” in Finnish) emphasizes visual comfort and acuity for the eyes, Watson adds.
All Alue AQ-P lenses provide 100% UV-A and UV-B protection and 100% blue light protection to 410nm and 93% blue light protection to 480nm. The additional protection from short wave visible light can help contribute to eye health as it blocks damaging blue light.
The Alue AQ-P lens is constructed with the finest grade 1, optical mineral glass, promoting optimal visual clarity. The glass is chemically hardened and thermally toughened to enhance resistance to impact, scratches, heat and chemical attack. All lenses have five micro thin layers: an ultra thin polarizing film is encapsulated between glass wafers, front and back hydrophobic coatings to resist smudges and dirt, and an anti-reflective coating to reduce reflective glares.
Alue AQ-P lenses are brown-based, excellent for true color, object contrast and depth perception in sunny and varied light conditions. The Alue AQ-P Brown lens also comes as Alue AQ-P Gold and Alue AQ-P Titanium. These proprietary subtle mirror coatings can further increase eye comfort in highly reflective environments, the company says.
