Lindsay Lohan just followed up legwear with handbags as the second accessory classification under her 6126 label. The line will launch this spring.
The brand name is a nod to Lilo’s heroine Marilyn Monroe, who was born on June 1st, 1926 (or 6/1/26). The handbag line is also a welcome project for the troubled yet talented actress, who is now in court-ordered rehab.
The 6126 handbag collection is designed and manufactured by The California Bag, a three-year old company that is growing its ranks of brands, not to mention its design team. Its current portfolio includes 6126 Collection, Ed Hardy, Christian Audigier and The California Bag. For fall 2011, the company is launching Buffalo handbags under license. All are non-leather, with the exception of The California Bag, which features leather bags retailing under $200. “We used to use freelance designers, but because of the expanded brands, we have hired a full-time design team headed by Paz Shakkah,” says president Richard Luna.
The faux leather handbags range from solids to animal prints. A blue denim waist bag with black lace overlay, tassels and chain detailing looked fresh. Some show the 6126 numbers as four separate zipper-pull charms—like a key.
The bags all have the 6126 logo nameplate, and unlike, say, Jessica Simpson, whose logo is her signature, Lindsay’s name doesn’t appear anywyhere. “Lindsay wanted the design to speak for itself,” says Luna, noting how other celebrity brands like the Olsen twins’ Elizabeth and James line do the same.
Retails will average around $100 to $145.
