Nashville, TN—Ah, springtime! The start of warmer weather and time to pull out casual footwear of choice: flip flops.
The folks at Soles4Souls, the international shoe charity, hope consumers will give some more thought to their flip flops purchases this spring.
On Tuesday, Soles4Souls announced it partnered with Planet Flops, founded by podiatrist Dr. Sylvie Shapiro, to sponsor a “buy one, give one” deal for every pair of flip flops purchased (retail, $28) on www.PlanetFlops.com.
The company will provide footwear to an adult or child in need in developing nations like Haiti with its Buy One, Give One campaign.
Footwear for the Impoverished
With one in four adults in the world living on less than $1 a day, basic necessities like shoes are not readily available. A simple pair of shoes or flip flops can protect an individual’s feet from cuts and infection that can be life threatening if untreated. With partners like Planet Flops, Soles4Souls is hoping to change that statistic.
Planet Flops founder Dr. Sylvie Shapiro, has worked with Soles4Souls for several years and has previously donated more than $250,000 worth of shoes to the charity.
“As someone who is passionate about healthy feet and getting people in properly fitting shoes, we are delighted to help support Soles 4 Souls,” said Shapiro. Planet Flops also has a Buy One, Plant One program: for every pair of its flip flops bought on its website, the company plants a tree in the Brazilian rainforest.
Soles4Souls partners with progressive companies in the footwear and fashion industries to directly affect the lives of people suffering from natural disasters or striving to break free from poverty.
“Planet Flops is helping us continue our mission to help the hurting with new footwear, while remaining dedicated to its mission of being eco-friendly,” said Wayne Elsey, founder/ceo at Soles4Souls. “We are grateful that they have chosen to give back with their brand to individuals in need.”
