Gloversville, NY and New York—Warm your toes in a Van Gogh landscape? Stave off the chill with a Cheval? Keep toasty and warm in the cold with a Klimt?
Yes, a veritable art gallery of cold weather gear will be available at retail this fall, thanks to collaboration between Grandoe, the 100+ year old leather glove resource, and Icon Shoes.
Known as “Icon for Grandoe” and “Icon for Smartdogs,” the collection of leather gloves and slippers will feature artwork from up-and-coming artists and greats such as Vincent Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, and Michael Cheval and other embedded on premium sheepskin leather and fashioned into contemporary silhouettes.
Gloves, Slippers Become Artists’ Canvases
“We’ve been big fans of the Icon brand and their products for years and love the idea of translating the bold printed graphics they are well known for in leather shoes, handbags and small leathergoods into the stylish women’s leather gloves and slippers we are famous for,” says Eric Friedman, Grandoe’s president/ceo.
Suggested retails on the slipper shoes will range from $80 to $100, $86 to $130 on fashion dress gloves, and $140 for ski gloves. The collection, which will be available at retail beginning in August, is aimed at adding some “fashion accessory pizzazz” to a market saturated with basics, Friedman adds.
“Icon has evolved to become the leader in producing innovative, handcrafted leathergoods and footwear and we are thrilled to be partnering with America’s premier glove and slipper maker in our newest endeavor” says Carolyn Morris, executive vice president at Icon.
