New York–The Fashion Accessories Benefit Ball (FABB), the accessories industry’s largest fundraising event, is starting off its 21st annual ball on Tuesday, May 4 in New York with a new concept: a more than three-hour cocktail party, dancing and a “dinner-by-the-bite” buffet.“As we start our third decade, FABB is taking a new approach,” says Reenie Brown, FABB’s founder and chairman. Instead of a formal sit-down dinner, FABB organizers decided to expand the ever-popular cocktail hour, a prime networking occasion, giving attendees “a more casual and flexible experience.”
By expanding the cocktail hour and offering “dinner by the bite,” FABB’s host committee hopes to encourage even more attendance. Ticket prices also have been reduced to $350 each. Instead of black tie, the new concept calls for “party attire,” with a focus on accessories, of course!
Held at Pier 60 at the Chelsea Piers overlooking the Hudson River, FABB is donating all the proceeds from the evening’s event to Save the Children Haiti, one the world’s leading relief organizations. Although FABB will have a more relaxed, casual party atmosphere, many of the traditional elements remain. This year’s special achievement award, for instance, will be presented to Ed Bucciarelli, CEO of Henri Bendel. And for those who love to dance, FABB’s favorite Starlight Orchestra will be performing, too.
Since its inception in 1991, FABB has raised nearly $12 million for various charities. Ironically, FABB had already selected Save the Children Haiti as its 2010 beneficiary even before the devastating earthquake hit the country in January. “The children of Haiti have been in desperate need even before the tragic earthquake hit,” Brown says. “But now the situation is even graver. I encourage anyone in the accessories industry to join with their colleagues and support this important cause.”
