NYFW: Flying Solo Collective’s Creative Take on Accessories

In Industry News, What's New by Lauren Parker, Accessories MagazineLeave a Comment

Accessories can be notoriously difficult to highlight during a fashion show, as they’re often overtaken by the apparel. At Flying Solo, a year-old retail and wholesale collective in Soho (a massive 7,000-square-foot store on West Broadway), accessories took center stage before the runway show began, letting visitors get close and personal to the various collections. The ambitious show presented over 400 looks from 60 designers, and Flying Solo launched an e-com site concurrent with the show so viewers could shop off the runway.

As the room filled up, it was controlled chaos, with pounding music, dancing DJ’s and photographers and editors jockeying for position. All in a day at NYFW!

A few of our favorites:

Iza by Sylvia d’Avila

Iridescence

Iridescence was actually a finalist at the Handbag Awards, which isn’t surprising. It’s creative and eye-catching, which the handbag industry always needs!

Britan Art

Nature was key here, from leaf pendants to laurel leaf tiaras and masks.

Simitri Designs

Holograms and shine were on the menu here, from iridescent bug box-bags to all-over crystal to mirrored silver and tweed oxfords.

Mariana Cestari

Feathers were on the agenda as well, with bold feathered pendants that fanned out. All white sneakers kept the look from going too showgirl.

Marias

Carpet bags evoked exotic bazaars, some with embroidered guitar straps for color and trend.

The Modern Tales

The Modern Tales is itching for a revolution with bold gold jewelry and ears cuff that state: Counterculture.

Katie Lares

And every once in a while, the designer would pop into the mix, reminding us just how tall those models really are!

Wynono

The only hat designer of the bunch added a chic approach with wide-brimmed fedoras and other shapes.

Accessories on the Runway

Even when the runway show did get under way, it was clear that accessories were still at least co-stars. Here, a few of our favorite accessory-centric looks.
