The winners of the 2017 Handbag Awards are in!

This year marks the 11th year for the Independent Handbag Designer Awards (IHDA), a springboard to success for many aspiring handbag designers. Creator Emily Blumenthal and her colleagues and team of judges have used this annual competition–an “industry staple”–to find new talent and hopefully spot a few future “It” bags along the way, too.

2017 Handbag Awards

Over 1,500 applications were received and the annual awards show was held this week at the SVA Theater in New York City. It was as glam as it can get, with a mix of magazine editors, brand executives and industry stalwarts under one roof to celebrate emerging talent. But more than being a celebration of fashion, it was a touching night where newbie designers got to share their stories with their family and friends.

Newcomer Christopher Belt took home three awards, including the Best Retail Bag presented by Neiman Marcus’ Ken Downing (above).

We rounded up this year’s winners, who are sure to be showing up on retailers’ shelves soon!
