ERICA RUSSO, OVP AND FASHION DIRECTOR
OF ACCESSORIES AND BEAUTY, BLOOMINGDALE’S
What Fall fashion trend are you most excited about? How are you looking to translate this for your customer with accessories?
Fall Fashion Month proved to be very exciting with quite a few trend emerging. We continue to be inspired by all the velvet, colored metallic and novelty that walked the runways and was seen in street style.
Any particular colors to note?
Red was a huge color for the upcoming season and sent a powerful message across RTW, handbags and shoes. A red boot is a fall must-have!
What’s one item you saw on the Fall runways that you couldn’t wait to see interpreted at May Market?
Crystal embellishment is one of the trends we are very excited about. Expect to see sparkle in all categories from your head to your toes.
Chokers came, saw and conquered! How are they evolving at Bloomingdale’s and what are you seeking next in jewelry?
Chokers continue to be strong for us but have evolved to become part of an overall layering trend. From a thin gold strand high at the neck to multi length pendants, it’s all about creating a look that is uniquely your own. We love the idea of styling existing pieces with new ones for a fresh, modern look.
In handbags, consumers seem to be open to new brands… what have you discovered lately or are excited about seeing?
Bloomingdale’s is committed to discovering and nurturing new talent from designer to contemporary. Some of our newest upcoming additions include Nico Giani, which is exclusive to Bloomingdale’s, as well as Karen Walker and Kara.
As a New Yorker, what are your favorite place to go for a drink/dinner in NYC? And what do you want to try next?
Recently Le Coucou and Chinese Tuxedo have been my favorites. I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and work in Manhattan so I’m faced with a never-ending list of new restaurants to explore. My current list of restaurants to try includes Augustine, Chumely’s and Samui.
Anything cultural you want to check out?
I always look forward to the MET exhibit and try to attend it as soon as it opens. I have a feeling that this year’s exhibit with Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garcons will be a favorite. When I can sneak out of the office a little early or have a day off I love to walk the Highline or catch the Whitney Biennial.
