As May Market Week rapidly approaches, we’ve all got Fall weather, Fall trends and Fall trade shows on our minds! Accessories has been checking in with some of the industry’s best retailers to see what piqued their interest most from the runway shows and what’s on their open-to-buy hit list. Accessories: What Fall fashion trend are you most excited about? How are you looking to translate this for your customer with accessories?
DJ: We continue to be most excited about how eyewear, jewelry and scarves are being used as ways for customers to communicate their personality with others. We talk to our customers about creating ‘The Bold You’ through several activation points both in stores and online. Our goal is to inspire customers and empower them to share what makes them unique through their accessories.
What’s one item you saw on the Fall runways that you can’t wait to see interpreted at May Market?
The item everyone is talking about is the Saint Laurent rhinestone boot! High-shine silver and strass was everywhere in footwear and jewelry. We’re looking forward to seeing where this can go within the broader accessories zone. It’s exciting to have such an electric pop within the assortment!
There seems to be a lot happening in sunwear these days. What are you most excited about?
We’re loving the over-the-top eyewear we’ve been seeing! Bigger IS better this fall whether it’s a futuristic shield, exaggerated cat, or oversized with glitter.
Chokers put so much emphasis on the neck. What body part will be the next focal point?
We’re seeing the focus move to the ‘Year of the Ear.’
And after chokers? Will there be a new necklace length or silhouette?
We are also seeing a resurgence in statement pendants.
A lot for Fall seems so lush, from sequins to velvet to glitter to embroidery. How are you capturing this for your customers?
We’ve been seeking out pieces that appear bespoke, personal and encapsulate a feeling of day-time glamour. We’ve worked with our private-label brands to create a strong velvet and shine capsule collection and have also worked with the supplier community to add pearls, jewels and glitz to everyday go-to accessories.
Where’s your favorite place to go for a drink/dinner in NYC during Market, either with clients or with your team?
La Esquina is always a favorite!
