New York—Controversy was the name of the game this week. What with renegade ex-CEO Dov Charney in a deal that returns him to American Apparel, the recipient of a $25 million lifeline.

ShopperTrak, which provides major retailers around the world with analysis, released a list of the most important retail analytics, starting with conversion. “Based on the feedback we received and research we collected, retail challenges, opportunities and expectations continue to evolve alongside disruptive changes in technology,” ShopperTrak said.

And in many quarters, this milestone caused some stomach rumbling: Amazon, the behemoth of online sales, broke into the annual list of Top 10 Retailers.
