The retailer, which opens its first store in Dublin in 1969, said its first U.S. store would open in a 70,000-square-foot space in the Burnham Building at Downtown Crossing in Boston previously home to Filene’s Department Store. Additional stores will open by the middle of 2016 in the Northeast, the company indicated. “After extensive research, it has been decided to take the Primark concept to consumers in the USA,” Primark owner Associated British Foods said.
Primark operates more than 250 stores in Great Britain, Ireland and Europe and has been in an expansion mode. During its last quarter, the retailer opened 16 newincluding two in France, six in Spain, three in the UK, and two in the Netherlands.
In a statement today, Associated British Foods announced that Primark will be opening stores in the Northeastern part of the United States.
“Primark offers up-to-the-minute fashion at value-for-money prices and has a strong consumer following in nine countries in Western Europe,” the release said. “After extensive research it has been decided to take the concept to consumers in the USA.”
