A glimpse into the future? Google and Luxottica to partner on a new generation of smartglasses

New York—Mentoring, partnerships and collaborations. They were a chief topic in fashion industry news this week.

Topping the list is the high/low combination of shoe designer Brian Atwood and footwear entrepreneur Steve Madden who announced they bought the Brian Atwood brand and assets. Atwood himself remains as chief creative officer of his brand while Steve Madden’s business now expands into the luxury realm.

Looking into the Future

Another partnership that’s garnering plenty of speculation is that between Internet giant Google and eyewear giant Luxottica. The duo plan to incorporate the rarefied Google Glass technology into Luxottica’s eyewear creating an opportunity for a new niche in eyewear, smartglasses.

Speaking of the future, the ICE Jewelry Awards took another step forward. Mentors, including some of fashion jewelry most notable names, worked with FIT jewelry design students on concepts for the first-ever ICE Crystal Jewelry Awards. It’s down to the 10 semi-finalists which will be narrowed down to five finalists soon. Stay tuned.
