In the mid-twentieth century women who dressed in labels such as Dior, Balenciaga, and Chanel looked polished, ladylike and yet throroughly modern. Today the same can be said for wearing Celine, Stella McCartney and Chloe. The buoyant shapes of Modern Couture reflect a spirit of optimism about our future.
This theme alludes to the romance and history of the traveling people of Old Europe known as Romanies or gypsies. Inspiration comes from their brightly painted caravans and the rich hues of their embroidered textiles.
We look back to the meaning behind the classic fairy tales. These dark but magical stories have extreme characterizations including the pure heroine, the valiant prince and the wicked witch. From them we learned to explore both sides of life, the light and the dark.
