From Coach’s spring collection

New York—Collaborations were a hot topic this week. From the Banana Republic/Marimekko apparel and accessories for spring to more New York retailers, including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue, vying to capitalize on upcoming first-time Super Bowl in the New York metro area. (Let’s just hope the weather cooperates on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 2, no polar vortex please!).

American handbag maker Coach might feel as though it’s been hit by a polar vortex. In its chilling second quarter earnings report this week, Coach’s profit fell as sales in North America faltered, hit by the growing market share of rivals such as Michael Kors and Kate Spade.

Handbag Hype

Handbags also are in the forefront again thanks to the 8th Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards. The awards, which will be revealed later this spring, are open for submissions, so act fast.

Speaking of fast, Walmart hopes to fast-track its goal of expanding merchandise offerings made in the USA with a $10 million investment fund that seeks to improve and expand U.S. manufacturing across a wide range of industries.
