Week in Review: Holiday Season Must-Reads

pantoneNew York—It was a colorful week—what with all the extended Black Friday sales and a record setting day of online sales for Cyber Monday (Dec. 2).

Still, it turned out to be a red week for many retailers, who reported less-than-spectacular third quarters. Especially hit were teen-oriented retailers such as Aéropostale, Express and American Eagle Outfitters.

Even retailers, who did better than expected last month (read: JCPenney) pointed out they did so under a challenging retail environment which is likely to become even more highly promotional as Dec. 25 nears.

But looking ahead, think purple—at least have a passion for what Pantone calls the 2014 Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid.

And if the holiday season turns out to be as tumultuous as economists now predict, we will all need the “expanded creativity and originality” that Radiant Orchid will be supplying to 2014 designs.
