New York—One would think that Jay Z, the rapper, record producer, entrepreneur, professional sports agent and investor, (not to mention husband to Beyoncé,) ought to have enough to keep him busy.
According to a report in WWD, Jay Z has been in secret talks with Barneys New York. Odds are that the topic is: 1. he’s looking to do a capsule collection for the luxury retailer 2. He’ll be in their fall/holiday ad campaign, or 3. He’s the next big name to work on Barneys’ holiday collections—similar to Lady Gaga and Disney.
Or, maybe Barneys executives are talking him about their plans to change the remaining Co-Op stores into Barneys New York, thus eliminating the longtime diffusion retail brand.
A spokesperson for Barneys summed up the Co-Op conversation by saying: “After completing the first three Co-Op conversions to Barneys New York stores in 2013, we will focus our efforts on the remaining stores in 2014.”
