Week in Review: The News to Know

SwarovskiNew York–There may be a midsummer’s night heat in much of the nation, but plenty of retailers, designers and fashion companies are thinking ahead. Take The Jones Group, for instance. This week the parent of some 35 brands apparently is planning to put all (or part) of the company up for sale. Banana Republic hopes its holiday sales will be bolstered by its latest designer collaboration with L’Wren Scott. And Target is heading north, opening 124 stores in Canada by the end of this year.
Looking ahead to the back-to-school season, The NPD Group, Inc. found that consumers plan to spend more this year, especially online. Not to name drop of anything, but supermodel Kate Moss is thinking about what to do with her latest endeavor: a collection of smartphone accessories.
