There’s a trend among high-end leathergoods brands to go even higher-end, creating bags and small leathergoods even more rarified for that echelon known as “absolute luxury.”
While this upper crust merchandise mainly is found among European luxurygoods brands, no less than Coach has tossed a special bag into this ultra-affluent arena. It’s this bag made of Louisiana crocodile and designed by Billy Reid.
The winner of last year’s CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year, Reid collaborated with Coach on a capsule line to be introduced this fall. Most of the leathergoods in the collection retail from $250 to $800, but this bag carries a $20,000 price tag.
This bag–along with the hiring of Loewe’s Stuart Vevers as Coach’s new creative director–could be a sign that Coach, too, is taking a high road.
