Editor’s Blog: Cynthia Rowley Resort ’14

2e7dd8da3f02778d1567edb2f74deeb07c1f0935I want to give Cynthia Rowley a huge shout out for the visually arresting way she styled and presented her Resort 2014 show.

Obviously aware that editors are bleary-eyed from looking at zillions of Fall 2013 runway shows, and now the Resort shows, Rowley was wise to create something so striking in its simplicity.

To offset the interestingjumble of printed clothing and accessories—inspired by her recent trips to Africa, Mexico and Brazil—she staged the models on white seamless paper in a lush urban-meets-nature setting (a giant outdoor deck at your West Village townhouse doesn’t hurt, either).

Rowley has always had an artistic bent and is a staple on the contemporary art circuit in New York and art fairs like Art Basel Miami. When I worked at the startup art magazine Smock, she created one-off artsy ads exclusively for us.

smockmagIn an industry so full of creativity, it’s always so interesting to see what will jump out and stick in the brain.
