Hairstyling 101 with Colette Malouf

New York—Not only was hair accessories maven Colette Malouf having her own pop-up shop inside the window at Henri Bendel this week, the designer was on-hand to provide tips on French twists, chignons, top knots, combs etc.

It was too enticing to pass up. Could she manage to show me a way to tame my sometimes unruly long blonde locks?

I found Malouf expertly styling a young customer’s hair using a beaded comb. (To be honest, I had no idea a comb could look so good…).

I was delighted to meet Colette, who is as nice as they say, and begged her for a little hair help. She decided to show me the “simple serpent twist” which is a small twist that when unraveled leaves you with stunning beach waves.

“Perfect for those mornings when you just don’t have enough time for a perfect blow-dry,” she noted.

I couldn’t agree more. The entire process begins with your hair dry but for just a touch damp. Then to simply twist until you can’t possibly twist any more. The final step is to secure it with a pin, (preferably one of Colette Malouf ‘s M pins). Let dry while you have your breakfast, remove the pin on your way out the door and voila! Perfect waves that look like you spent hours styling. Minimum pain, maximum gain–just the way we like it!

Colette Malouf will be meeting with shoppers and providing expert advice at Henri Bendel through this Friday. If you need a little “hairspiration” for spring. I highly recommend popping in for a few tips and tricks from this legend!
