Bridgewater, NJ—Fans of Project Runway will remember him as the controversial winner of “Project Runway All Stars 2: Anthony Ryan Auld.
Also voted fan favorite, Auld, who appeared on two seasons of the hit reality TV show, will now be serving as a judge representing Brother International Corp. in the Brother Best Handmade Handbag competition at the upcoming Independent Handbag Designer Awards (IHDA) scheduled for June 19 in New York City.
The Brother Best Handmade Handbag category competition encourages participants to submit handbags which were made by hand or with a sewing machine for judging. The handbags, which can be made of any material, must be developed under the designer’s own label–no manufactured or factory-made bags are allowed.

Shulman, a senior vice president of Brother International Corp. and head of the company’s Home Appliance and Industrial Products Divisions. “We believe that the Independent Handbag Designer Awards completely mirrors what we at Brother promote: a focus on creativity and unique design. Having Anthony Ryan Auld participate on our behalf as a judge and use his expertise to select the winning designer will be a highlight of the competition.”
IHDA Awards in Nine Categories
The Brother Best Handmade Handbag Award is only a portion of the 7th Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards (IHDA), the only handbag competition of its kind in the world.
Founded by HBDNetwork (formerly known as Handbag Designer 101), the IHDA have become a coveted prize in the handbag industry. This year, the awards will be presented June 19 in New York City in which competitors will be vying for one of nine awards in handbag excellence, international recognition and a variety of prizes at the awards ceremony.
This year, the IHDA will bestow honors in nine categories including: Best Handbag in Overall Style & Design; Best Student Made Handbag; Brother Best Handmade Handbag; Timberland Best Green Handbag; Most Socially Responsible Handbag; and Audience Fan Favorite Handbag.

According to Shulman, winner of the company’s Brother Best Handmade Handbag will receive a designer profile on the BrotherSews Facebook page (www.facebook.com/brothersews) as well as a feature-packed SB3129 computerized sewing machine from the Simplicity by Brother line. The winning bag will also be featured in the article covering the awards event in the September issue of InStyle magazine.
