Editor’s Blog: Wicked Stripes

wicked witchIf there’s one thing that scared the bezeesus out of me as a child, it was that house dropped on the Wicked Witch of the West in the original “Wizard of Oz.”

With “Oz: The Great and Powerful” now in theaters as a reinvention to the classic, it’s no wonder my brain has been following the yellow brick road for Oz iconography.

First, there were those ruby red slippers on the Oscars Red Carpet where celebs had play the  “guess what’s under this box?” game, and now this.

I’m sure Miuccia Prada didn’t have Oz on her mind when she created her Fall 2013 runway collection for Paris (although maybe she did?) but I had to laugh that I free-associated those iconic black-and-white striped stockings when I first glimpsed the colorful stripes at her show.

What do you think? Do we spot a trend? Or have I been hanging around too many poppy fields?
