San Francisco—It’s a Mod, Mod World over at Banana Republic, where the retailer’s latest collaboration with “Mad Men” costume designer Janie Bryant hits floors (and websites) recently.
“The spirit and fashion-forward thinking we see on-screen in Megan was really inspirational for the capsule,” says Bryant. Other key influences include Joan’s form-fitting silhouette, Megan’s shift dresses in psychedelic prints, Peggy’s matching accessories, and Megan’s youthful effect on Don’s classic wardrobe.
The women’s collection celebrates color, print and pattern in iconic items like the era’s popular shift dress with shorter hemlines, keyhole details, and checked capris. Accessories include a mirrored heel shoe, graphic scarves, and geometric jewelry for women, along with fedoras and skinny ties for men.
And if it’s not enough for consumers to emulate the characters as they move into the later—and more Mod—’60s era, Banana Republic has a hip sweepstakes to set the tone.
One fan winner and a guest with get to live out the Mod life, courtesy of Banana Republic. The package includes three nights at a five-star hotel in New York, a $1,000 gift card and Banana Republic personal stylist, and $1,000 to spend on ideas from culture guru Urban Daddy, which will recommend food, shopping and nightlife to keep with the theme.
