Editor’s Blog: Young Carrie is Pretty in Patterns

carries-letter-sweater-horse-jeansNew York–Let’s check in on our young Carrie Bradshaw, star of “The Carrie Diaries,” now in its third episode on the CW.

Before she was style icon CARRIE BRADSHAW, she was a Connecticut-based, suburban high schooler finding her style way in 1984.

And while she’s waiting for her Mr. Big Prince Charming (or fighting with her dad who won’t allow her to see the bad boy one she’s already chosen) she’s standing by impatiently with a slew of knit patterns to express herself.

Designers who cater to the Junior market are surely taking note of these fun, colorful patterns and unique pairings, all brought to the small screen by costume designer Eric Daman.

One of his creatively clashing creations was Carrie’s outfit at left. The farthest thing from a Varsity letter sweater, floating As, B+s and even some Fs were a fun nod to school’s trials and tribulations. Here, Carrie wears it with colored jeans printed with horse silhouettes.

What other patterns does she favor? She’s pretty consistent.

It’s tough being a teen, and Carries crazy life makes her feel positively…dotty.

Despite being on the straight and narrow sometimes, Carrie still likes to bend the rules (and her hair).

From lipstick kisses to animal prints, Carrie uses bold patterns to get noticed.
