Inauguration 2013: Accessories Get Sworn In

Beyonce Knowles sings the national anthem at the presidential inauguration 2013

Washington–As always, the presidential inauguration was as much a fashion spectacle as a political one. First lady Michelle Obama is known for her creative mix of high-low fashion, and the celebrity entertainers are known for their over-the-top glam. This year was no difference, and accessories stole the show.

And once again, the entertainers made the headlines (remember Aretha Franklin’s  lawsuit-causing hat last year?).

Pop diva Beyonce moved the audience with her rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner,” but it was her stunning emerald earrings that got the fashion world talking.

According to reports, the giant precious gem earrings are 80-carat stunners by jeweler Lorraine Schwartz. It’s tough to tell in the photos, Beyonce’s Lorraine Schwartz earrings “crawls up” the ear a bit in a glam twist on the often edgy ear cuff. Beyonce also showed off the latest color stone in trend-right style, as Pantone recently announced Emerald Green as its 2013 Color of the Year.

But back to FLOTUS, our beloved First Lady and her lovely daughters.

Michelle Obama wore a Thom Brown coat and a bejeweled belt from J.Crew

Beyonce wasn’t the only one “belting things out!” Rocking a new ‘do with a chic set of bangs (definitely the bang heard about the world!), Michelle Obama “belted out” a great fashion look when she paired a Thom Browne checked coat with a bejeweled belt from J.Crew. Expect women across America to copy this look, as it adds instant and temporary amped-up style to any coat with a nipped-in waist.

Contrast fuchsia leather gloves added colorful pop on gray, frigid Washington day.

And we can’t omit the First Daughters. Both girls looked great in tonal berry and purple tone coats, accessories and dresses. And for this inauguration, little Sasha didn’t need to stand on a crate to be tall enough for the photos.
