Even Olympic athletes need a good luck charm! And in the case of U.S. swimmer Dana Vollmer, her Tomas Jewelry elephant studs actually helped her win gold.

Don’t believe us? Two weeks before her world record-breaking race, the 24-year-old swimmer tweeted: “I just found my #London2012 lucky charm! Little elephant earrings that I will wear when I compete!” She also showed a photo of the elephants on a Tomas card. She did indeed win gold, even setting a record for the Women’s 100m Butterfly.

Elephants with an upturned trunk have long been considered symbols of good fortune, and Vollmer has had an affinity for them ever since her father bought her an elephant necklace on a business trip to South Africa.

We won’t be competing in any Olympic races in the near future, and the only swimming we plan on doing is in our friend’s pool, but we’re betting the sun will shine a little longer and brighter if we’re wearing these sterling silver studs with Swarovski crystals.
