Joanel light-up handbag (light is exaggerated in image)

How’s this for a bright idea?

This patent-pending handbag interior lights up (with just a light touch on the touch-activated fabric switch) so women no longer need to consider their handbags a “bottomless black hole.”

Created by Canadian handbag manufacturer Joanel Inc., this innovative LUX bag means you can turn off that iPhone flashlight for good when scrambling for your keys. The interior-illuminated bag launches this August during Market Week, offering a fashionable solution to a functional problem.

LUX was developed with the help of CTT Group, which is known for combining technology and textiles. It features a flexible ‘web’ of LED bulbs built directly into the lining with a touch-activated fabric switch.

Stylish and functional, the classically styled leather tote is available in three sizes and two colour combinations. Lux is battery powered, one AA battery will illuminate the interior approximately 1,000 times. To save energy, the system also includes a 60 second auto shut-off to prevent unwanted or prolonged use.

Retail: $280 to $345, depending on size.
