Footwear brand Vans collaborated with Krochet Kids International (www.krochetkids.org), a non-profit organization that teaches women in developing nations how to crochet hats, scarves, bowties and more and enrolls them in a holistic program that empowers them to rise above poverty.
This Bixie style was Krochet Kids’ first shoe, a project that proved “fun and challenging.” The goal was to create a shoe that was true to both Vans and the Krochet Kids attributes and identities. Thanks to the ingenuity of one worker in Uganda who created the crocheted panels, the Bixie was born, sporting a 100% natural hemp or canvas, removable and washable super comfy foot bed. Her handiwork resulted in some mighty fine footwork.
And least you forget its origins, the signature of the lady who designed the Bixie is found on the label inside, made with water-based inks and glues.
