New York–Brazil (the “B” of the BRIC countries) has been making plenty of headlines recently: the South American nation ranked No. 1 on the 2012 Global Retail Development Index; Walmart is contributing some $10 million to retail curriculum and education there, and, Macy’s selected the country as the subject of a storewide salute.
Now BJI Fashion Group (BJI), producers of AccessoriesTheShow, Moda and FAME trade shows, announced it will be creating “shows within a show” featuring top brands from the United States during the Couromodo and São Paulo Prêt-À-Porter Fashion Week, January 13 to 16, 2013.
“Co-locating with São Paulo Prêt-À-Porter represents an enormous opportunity for International contemporary collections wishing to expand into the massive and rapidly growing Brazilian and Latin American markets, which are already the sixth largest in the world,” said Britton Jones, BJI’s president/ceo.
‘High-Growth Market’ for Fashion
“However, they are still largely untapped by U.S. brands and are looking for iconic, trend-centric contemporary merchandise,” Jones said. “With this launch, we will bring approximately 50 world class ready-to-wear and accessories brands to the Brazilian market.”
Noting that Brazil represents the most dynamic opportunity for brands looking to expand into new international markets, Jones said, “We have carefully put together partnerships to create the most comprehensive and effective programs for our customers to open a substantive base of business in this high-growth market.”
To accomplish this strategic move, BJI Fashion Group entered a joint venture with Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado (RXAM), the largest and most successful trade show producer in Brazil.
“The success of this venture is also amplified by the fact that it will be co-located with Brazil’s leading fashion industry events, São Paulo Prêt-À-Porter and Couromoda,” Jones added.
