New York—When more than 130 million people from eight major global markets search online for luxury handbags, what brand ranks number one among the searches?
As part of their World Luxury Index, an international ranking and analysis of the most searched-for brands within the luxurygoods sector, Digital Luxury Group (DLG), and the Luxury Society reported Wednesday that American brand Coach topped the list, ahead of famous European brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci and Prada.
The 10 Most Searched Handbag Brands Globally
2. Louis Vuitton
9. Marc Jacobs
10. Michael Kors
But Coach wasn’t the only U.S. brand to be included on the list. Although the majority of the top 50 luxury handbag brands are European, American brands accounted for 14 out of the top 50 handbag brands most searched for among leading search engines.
However, even though the United States may have the largest population of the eight countries included in the survey, handbag lovers in the United Kingdom conducted the most handbag searches of any of the nation with 422 searches per 1,000 web users—surpassing the United States, France, Italy, Japan and others.
The most searched-for handbag? That would be the Hermès Birkin which ranked as the the most searched-for iconic bag. Interestingly, crocodile leather, one of the most expensive skins, is the most searched for consumers in the United States, UK and France when searching for the Birkin. And most U.S. consumers searched for their Birkins in the color orange.
Another popular searched-for iconic handbag is Louis Vuitton Speedy, which was most popular in searches in the United States, Germany, France and the UK. American searches were primarily for the Speedy in the Damier Canvas Azur colorway.
Americans go for the gold in the case of another iconic bag, Chanel 2.55 quilted camera bag. After the caviar (black) colorway, gold lead the searches in the United States, where most of the online searches for the style came from. Italy and the UK were second and third.
