“Gatsby” Trailer Released and It’s a Wild Ride

Burbank, CA–Much has been said (and criticized) about the casting choices for the upcoming movie “The Great Gatsby,” starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Carey Mulligan. But after watching the recently released trailer, we’re so enamored with the over-the-top production and the beyond-luxe accessories that we hardly care who’s wearing them!

Set during the Roaring 20s, everything is lush, sparkly, floaty and flirty. The swingy costumes are all countered by angular, linear Art Deco architecture and decor, and the contrast is beautiful.

Regarding the accessories…where to begin?

We’re particularly enamored with the lush array of furs, feather boas, hair jewelry, veiled headwear and big necklaces.

Colorless rhinestone jewelry makes a strong Art Deco statement in the film, and we’re happy to see this trend  drift into the accessories market for the upcoming holiday season (it’s a perfect counterpoint to all the color in the market as well).

Directed by Baz Lurhmann, the movie (opening December 24) captures the same over-the-top, retro-meets-contemporary approach of his earlier films “Moulin Rouge” and “Romeo + Juliet.”

The trailer’s modern soundtrack hints at a production that is far from period film. Contemporary direction will also help moviegoers imagine themselves right in the middle of the action.

As the Art Deco trend has already spilled into fashion, retailers are eagerly awaiting the sales bump once the movie comes out.

We just can’t wait to see what these stars will wear for the movie premiere!
