Sanrio Inc., known for its ubiquitous Hello Kitty character, and smart USA Distributor LLC, known for their compact “Smart Cars,” have teamed up for a collection of Hello Kitty vehicle wraps. The collaboration is part of Smart USA’s customized Smart Expressions program, which allows for customizable (and removable) vehicle wraps. This collaboration celebrates Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary.
“Our collaboration with smart USA allows fans to truly embrace the Hello Kitty lifestyle, says Janet Hsu, president of Sanrio, Inc. “This is the first time that Sanrio will offer a Hello Kitty car in the United States.”
The Hello Kitty wraps come in three versions, each with a variety of color schemes (22 full and partial wrap design and color combos total). The wraps are made of 3M vinyl products, and come with a 3-year warranty. Pricing starts at $1,700 for full wraps and $550 for a 2-door partial wrap. (The smart fortwo is available in five trim levels ranging in price from $11,990 to $20,990, excluding extra fees).

Earlier this month, Fung Investment Pte Ltd, a private equity firm headed by the bosses of global sourcing giant Li & Fung, bought a 1.03% stake in Sanrio. According to local news reports, Sanrio hopes the deal with accelerate its overseas expansion by enabling it to take advantage of Li & Fung’s global sales and production network.
