Necklaces a Virtual No-Show at Emmys

Los Angeles–The stylists working last night’s 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards show all seemed to have gotten the memo: “No necklaces! Just bold bracelets, long dangling earrings and cocktail rings!”

All eyes were on television’s leading ladies as they walked the Emmy Red Carpet at the Nokia Theater last night, and they got to see lots of bare decolletage. When it came to jewelry, necklines were left bare in favor for long, linear earrings, bold chandelier earrings, and lots of bracelets and rings. As dresses were adorned with shoulder treatments and ruffle details, most decided that statement necklaces would be overkill.

Feathers floated down on some stars, namely Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig, who had feather details on her shoulders and  “Mad Men’s” Christina Hendricks, whose delicate lavender feathered trim was almost able to distract from her seriously voluptuous cleavage.

Exceptions to the no-necklace edit were “Project Runway’s” Heidi Klum, who’s micromini Marchesa dress couldn’t possibly overwhelm her necklace (as there was so little dress to compete). “Top Chef’s” Padma Lakshi had an intricate, ethnically styled bib necklace overlaid on her dress–the largest necklace seen at the ceremony. Most necklaces were understated and sat neatly at the neckline.

Bracelets were very prominent, particularly from actress Julie Benz, who pushed one diamond bangle up toward her elbow for impact.
