New York—Think you can’t sit next to top editors at one the hottest runway shows at Lincoln Center? You can try, but it’s gonna cost you.
Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. today for Fashion’s Night Out’s first-ever public runway show and box office phone lines and the Internet were instantly mobbed as the general public scrambled to score seats. Tickets for the best seats ran up to $400, while cheap seats could be had for $25. American Express offered Cardmembers first access to the show via a weblink.
Once the invite-only domain of editors, buyers and celebrities, New York is throwing open its doors to consumers for its first-ever public runway show, held September 7 at Fashion Week’s new Lincoln Center location.
The Fashion’s Night Out show will feature 200 models—yet another runway first—and a mix designer clothes selected by Vogue editors. Although Fashion Week starts a few days later and will be featuring Spring 2011 styles, the public who attends this preview show will see a mix of Fall 2010 styles to give them a fashionable overview to the current season.

This year marks the second installation of Fashion’s Night Out, the brainchild of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. FNO is a simultaneous worldwide shopping event, where consumers can party, star-gaze, get discounts and freebies, and hobnob during Fashion Week at what was once an insider event. FNO is a collaboration of American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York.
Have sticker shock? Don’t. It’s all for a good cause. Proceeds from the show benefit the NYC AIDS fund. Tickets can be purchased at the Lincoln Center box office. And if selling public tickets to a formerly invite-only event wasn’t democratic enough, the show will be broadcast live online at CBS.com.
