WJA Awards Honor 11 in Jewelry Industry

New York—Eleven jewelry industry leaders recent received awards for their contributions to the jewelry industry at the 27th Annual Awards for Excellence held by the Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA).

The event, which raised $24,000 for WJA’s scholarships and programs, was held at Pier 60 at the Chelsea Piers where some 500 attendees pay tribute to this year’s winners.

Named to the 2010 Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award was Susan Jacques, president and ceo of Borsheims Jewelers, Omaha. The Ben Kaiser Award went to James Courage, ceo of Platinum Guild International. The Corporate Award for Excellence in recognition of its longtime support for women in the jewelry industry went to JCK Events and JCK magazine.

Other recipients honored included: Sarah Graham of Sarah Graham Metalsmithing for design in fine jewelry; Fiona Tilley of Gurhan for manufacturer/supplier; Aida Alvarez, Birks & Mayor for retailer 15 stores or more; Lula Halfacre, Traditional Jewelers for retailer, 15 stores or less; Shayne Kiesbuey of Erica Courtney for sales and merchandising; Helena Krodel, Jewelers of America, for marketing and communications, Tanya Dukes, Elite Traveler, for editorial/reporting; and Ruth Batson, American Gem Society, for special services.

Founded in 1983, WJA is the largest association of professional women in the jewelry, watch and related industries. Based in New York City, the WJA has 12 regional chapters in the United States, the India chapter and an international affiliate chapter in Italy.
