AccessoriesTheShow Attendance Up Again

AccessoriesTheShowNew York—Reporting a 4.2% percent increase in retailer attendance over 2009 at this week’s AccessoriesTheShow (ATS), show officials expect a similar response for the upcoming AccessoriesTheShow Las Vegas, August 16 to 18.

“There’s definitely has been a momentum building this year at our trade shows and that was clearly evident at this week’s ATS show at the Javits Center,” says Britton Jones, president and ceo of ATS, a division of BJI Fashion Group. “While the retail industry still isn’t back to levels we saw in 2007, retailers are definitely more aggressive than last year including a noticeable increase in order writing. Exhibitors said the New York show exceeded their expectations.”

ATS and other shows produced by BJI Fashion Group have been experiencing an increase in retailers pre-registering for shows, including a growing number coming from other countries. Retailers from some 56 countries attended the New York show this week, Jones says. The May ATS show also had reported a more than 4% increase over May 2009.

Upcoming Shows

Show officials say the timing of upcoming ATS shows in Las Vegas and in September in New York are addressing the needs of a broader range of retailers including some expanding doors or their e-commerce businesses.

Sharon Enright, vice president of BJI Fashion Group’s trade show division, says, “Our show dates allow us to capture a spectrum of retailers–some that are looking for immediates, others seeking holiday/resort merchandise or even a preview of Spring 2011.”

The upcoming ATS at the Venetian Hotel will be held concurrent with Moda Las Vegas and the MRket shows, making it the only Vegas venue where retailers can stay and shop at juried trade shows for accessories, women’s ready-to-wear and apparel in a single location, Jones says.

The Las Vegas shows will have new look, too, Enright adds, thanks to the shows’ collaboration with Molo Designs, the design and product studio which staged the dramatic environment at the recent International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF).

The ATS Pavilion, scheduled September 21 to 23, will also have new environment, the newly opened Javits North at the Javits Center, New York City.
