Item of the Day

Despite being black and white, something about this woven drawstring bag just screams sunshine and summer. It must be the soft, supple weave, or maybe it’s because we know the designer is from Brazil and now we’re daydreaming about sunny South American beaches, not to mention a cool, minty cocktail!

The new line is Filomena, and it was recently launched by designer Roberta Grasseschi, who used to be an assistant designer at BCBG. She named the company after her mother, Filomena, an avid philanthropist. To suit, 10% of the proceeds are donated to charity.

Each of these bags features the tresse technique, which is braiding the leather or working with it to create a new shape or pattern. Each bag is made by hand and therefore one of a kind.

Some of the bags also come with a patua, which is a Brazilian charm said to bring protection and happiness.

Bags come in a variety of shapes, from multi-color totes to solid east/west satchels to neutral colored backpacks. Retails run from $528 to $1,083.
