A division of consumer goods giant Li & Fung Ltd., LF USA opened its operations office in a 30,000 square foot space, adding 150 employees, which include 20 relocated from the company’s New York offices. Another 55 employees will be added by the end of the year, the company said.
“The good news for us in North Carolina and for you in the Triad is they grow,” said Gov. Bev Perdue. “They are going to grow and double and double and double right here in North Carolina.”
Indeed, Rick Darling, president of LF USA, and Bruce Rockowitz, ceo at Hong Kong-based Li & Fung Ltd., said they anticipate the size of the work force doubling in three years, if not faster.
“People talk about jobs going to China,” Rockowitz told a crowd of more than 200 on Monday. “We’re a Chinese company that’s moving to Greensboro.”
Darling noted that Greenboro is a logical place for the center since its convenience to major suppliers or licensees, including VF, Hanesbrands and Ralph Lauren, are situated nearby.
“Frankly, it was not much of a decision,” said Darling. “We are convinced that this was the best decision we could make.”
