Madonna Revives ’80s Chic with New ‘Material Girl’ Line

adonna Revives ’80s Chic with New ‘Material Girl’ Line

You know that we are living in a material world, right? Just in case you forgot, Madonna’s bringing back her signature ‘80s flare with her brand new clothing and accessories line designed with her daughter Lourdes Leon and created exclusively for Macy’s.  Called “Material Girl,” the line was developed with Iconix and  will be sold at the junior department.

Sketches from the line were just released, and from the looks of it, Madonna seems to be tapping into her own ‘80s retro-chic style (think rosary beads, studded bags and lots of crosses!) The sketches include three rock star outfits. The first is a tight black mini-dress, star-printed and accessorized with a black studded leather bag. The second, a bold floral dress is accented with lace-up mini-boots and an armful of colorful bangles. Finally, and the most literal Madonna outfit of all, is skinny jeans with zipper accents, a bustier top, blazer, hair bow and fingerless gloves. The line is a more modern approach to the star’s Material Girl wardrobe, with more of a rock ‘n’ role and edgier look to it.

Lourdes also has a say-so about the 80s point of view as posted on her blog: “I am totally obsessivo about 80’s shorts…You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in. It’s kinda nerdy but I love it. And the 80’s are another huge obsession of mine, which is totally amazingly awesome because Material Girl…HELLO! It’s like 80’s themed, which pretty much rocks, so yeah.”

Now, if that isn’t taking a page from the Madonna book of style, what is? Though teens will have to wait for the line’s August 3rd debut, there’s no hesitation that these material girls will be going back to school in style.
