Grand Rapids, MI–Chaco athletic sandals are fashionable in their own right, especially when worn on exotic treks or river-rafting trips. But they also have one byproduct from use in sunny weather: z-shaped “tan lines” that show up when the wearer is barefoot or wearing another pair of shoes.
Now, Chaco is turning their passion into a competition. The Chaco Tan photo contest will run June, July and August, and will feature a different mini-contest every two weeks. Selected finalists from the mini-contests will be entered to win the grand prize rafting trip. The grand prize winner will be announced on Labor Day, September 6th.
“The ‘Chaco tan’ is a big deal among consumers,” says Whitney Connor, Chaco’s marketing manager. “They are very loyal to Chaco and regularly post photos of their Chaco foot tan lines to the company’s Facebook page.” The shoes have die-hard fans (the Facebook page has over 11,000 people who “like” it), eager to show off where they’ve been with their Chacos.
Contest #1: Between June 22 – July 2nd, consumers will submit photos showing off their Chaco tan in exotic and out-of-the-way places. The person whose photo receives the most “Likes” by 5pm EST on July 2nd will receive a prize in the mini competition. The photo will also become a finalist in the river rafting trip grand prize contest.
