New York—Sunglass Hut, a leading global sunglass retailer, opened its first two flagship locations in New York’s Fifth Avenue and London’s Oxford Street this month.
The simultaneous openings drew crowds of shoppers and red carpet denizens to the flagships that include VIP lounges for private fittings.
“People are familiar with Sunglass Hut, but the New York and London flagships provide an opportunity to make the brand a consumer destination that showcases sunglasses like no other retailer in the world,” says Fabio d’Angelantonio, Sunglass Hut ceo. “Sunglasses are starting to have their place in fashion, shown recently down major collections in New York, Paris and Milan. The consumer is bored with bags and shows, and is looking for what’s new, what’s next.”
The Fifth Avenue flagship is a two-story, 6,000-square-foot-space situated at 605 Fifth Ave. In addition to the ground floor showcases and full-length oversized mirrors, the second floor has a VIP area and a Sunglass Hut SocialSun station, the store’s interactive retail concept. The 1,906-square-foot London store offers similar amenities.
Each flagship location has an expanded assortment including more than 30 brands including Burberry, Bvlgari, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Persol, Prada, Tiffany & Co. and Versace, as well as classic sunglass lines such as Ray-Ban and Oakley. The New York store also carried recently launched sunglass lines from Tory Burch and Stella McCartney and special editions from Tom Ford and Badgley Mischka.
