New York—When it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Barneys New York, you’ll definitely know it this year. The specialty retailer has teamed with none other than Lady Gaga in a collaboration that will include some Gaga-esque gifts. (Meat dress anyone?)
In fact, starting in mid-November, Barneys will convert the entire fifth floor of its Manhattan flagship over to Gaga’s Workshop—as well as its window displays—La Gaga’s “interpretation of the iconic Santa’s Workshop.” (Santa emerging from an egg? Elves wearing McQueen armadillo shoes and Philip Treacy fascinators?)
Collaboration with Gaga: ‘A Thrill’
As part of the campaign, Gaga will be working with artists, Eli Sudbrack and Christophe Hamaide Pierson of Assume Vivid Astro Focus (AVAF), and Mugler creative director and Lady Gaga fashion director, Nicola Formichetti as well as Barneys’ creative director Dennis Freedman.
“Lady Gaga is a rare cultural phenomenon, not only because of her exceptional talents as a singer, songwriter and performer, but also with regard to her support of equality and individuality and status as a fashion icon,” said Mark Lee, Barneys New York ceo. “Partnering with her in this unprecedented collaborative way to create the largest and most all-encompassing holiday theme that Barneys has ever mounted is a thrill.”
Barneys also worked with Gaga and Formichetti on a range of “exclusive, limited edition, small gift items, which will be available for a limited time only at Gaga’s Workshop” and at select Barneys locations and at Barneys.com.
Barneys New York will donate 25% of sales from all items featured in Gaga’s Workshop to a charity of Lady Gaga’s choice in honor of this special program and in the spirit of the holiday season.
Gaga’s Workshop will live digitally on a custom-created section of Barneys.com, and will be launched via The Window, Barney’s luxury content site.
(We’re betting there’ll be a long line of little monsters awaiting the opening that would make Apple envious.)
